Privacy Policy

Information we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and username. You may optionally add a bio, city, state, hometown, website, and Instagram handle to your profile. If you choose to add a profile or cover photo, or post a photo or video, we store that media in Firebase Cloud Storage.

With your permission, we use your device location to show places and activities near you on the map. With your permission, we use your camera and microphone to let you take a profile photo or record a video, and your photo library to let you choose an existing photo. None of this happens without you taking an action that requests it, and your device will always show its own permission prompt first.

How we use your information

We use your information to operate the app: to show your saved places and trips back to you, to show your public profile and posts to other users according to the visibility you choose (public, followers only, or private), to power search and nearby recommendations, and to send you in-app notifications about follows, comments, likes, and trip invites. If you share a trip, the explorers you invite can see it and its stops. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not currently show ads or share your data with advertisers.

Where your data is stored

The Move is built on Firebase, a Google Cloud platform. Your account data, posts, trips, and saved places are stored in Google Cloud Firestore; photos and videos are stored in Google Cloud Storage. Access to this data is restricted by security rules that only allow you to write your own data, and that only allow other users to read what your visibility settings permit.

Services that process your data

Google Maps and Google Places: when you use the map, search, or MoveAi, your search text and the location being searched (your current location, if you allow it, or a place you type) are sent to Google to find real places.

Anthropic (Claude): MoveAi uses Anthropic's Claude AI to choose and describe suggestions. Before your first MoveAi request we ask your permission. When you use it, we send Anthropic what you are planning (for example "dinner"), your budget and group size, the name of the area (or "your area"), anything you type into MoveAi, and the list of nearby places Google returned. We never send Anthropic your name, email, account details, or exact location. You can use every other part of The Move without MoveAi.

Firebase Crashlytics: if the app crashes, a crash report with technical details about your device and the error is sent to Google so we can fix it.

Content you share with others

Posts, comments, and profile information you mark as public or followers-only are visible to other users of the app consistent with that setting. Other users can report content or profiles they believe violate our guidelines; our moderation team reviews reports and can remove content or suspend accounts that violate our Terms of Service.

Your choices and account deletion

You can edit or remove most profile information at any time from your profile. You can permanently delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your profile, saved places, posts, and other account data associated with you. This action cannot be undone.

Children's privacy

The Move is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. If we make a material change, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
